Refreshed, not altered
Neuromodulators such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are among the most widely used cosmetic treatments in dermatology. They work by temporarily relaxing specific facial muscles to soften the expression lines those muscles create.
When dosed thoughtfully, the goal is simple: a face that looks well-rested and still moves naturally. The difference between a natural result and a frozen result is rarely the product itself. It is the plan.
Why frozen results happen
An overdone look is almost always the result of treatment choices, not the product. A few common patterns are worth understanding before you decide on a provider.
Too high a dose for the muscle
When the dose is heavier than the muscle needs, motion can be reduced more than intended. A measured, individualized dose preserves natural expression.
Treating muscles that should still move
Some muscles support facial expression and balance. Treating them aggressively, or treating the wrong ones, can flatten how the face moves.
A one-size-fits-all approach
Faces are not symmetrical and no two patients are identical. A pattern copied from someone else rarely produces a result that looks like you.
Not accounting for how the face ages
Lines, volume, and skin quality all change over time. A plan focused only on softening lines, without considering the whole face, can read as overdone.
How conservative dosing helps
Our philosophy is to do less, well. A conservative, personalized dose preserves the small movements that make a face look alive, while still softening the lines that bother you most.
- We start with a thoughtful, lower dose tailored to your anatomy and goals, especially at your first visit.
- We map the muscles individually rather than using a fixed template, so your treatment fits your face.
- We schedule a follow-up about two weeks after treatment to assess the result and fine-tune if needed.
- We aim for softened, refreshed expression rather than the elimination of all motion.
- Over time, we adjust your plan as your face, lifestyle, and preferences change.
It is easier to add a small amount of product at a two-week follow-up than it is to undo too much at once. That is why we start measured.
Common treatment areas
Not every area needs to be treated, and not every patient needs the same areas. Your plan is built around your anatomy and your goals.
Frown lines between the brows (glabella)
Softens the vertical 11 lines that can make a relaxed face look tense or angry, while keeping natural brow movement.
Forehead lines
Smooths horizontal forehead lines with a conservative dose that preserves the ability to raise the brows naturally.
Crow's feet
Softens fine lines that fan out from the corners of the eyes when you smile, without changing the warmth of your smile.
Bunny lines on the nose
Reduces fine wrinkles that appear across the bridge of the nose during expressions like laughing or scrunching.
Chin dimpling (mentalis)
Smooths a pebbled or dimpled appearance of the chin that can become more noticeable with age or expression.
Targeted advanced areas
Selected lip lines, jawline contouring, and platysmal neck bands may be considered for the right patient after an in-person evaluation.
Suitability for any specific area depends on your anatomy and goals. A consultation is the best way to decide what fits you.
What to expect after treatment
The visit itself is short. Results develop gradually over the following days.
Right after your visit
Treatment takes only a few minutes. Tiny bumps at the injection sites typically fade within 15 to 30 minutes, and most patients return to their day immediately.
The first 24 hours
Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas, strenuous exercise, and lying flat for several hours. Skip facials or other treatments on the area that day.
Days 3 to 14
Results develop gradually. Most patients notice softening within 3 to 5 days, with the full effect by about two weeks.
Long-term
Results typically last about 3 to 4 months and vary by patient, area, and dose. Many patients return on a regular schedule to maintain a consistent, natural look.
Individual results vary. Your provider will review what you can reasonably expect for your specific plan.
Who may be a good candidate
Cosmetic neuromodulator treatment is elective. The right fit comes down to your goals, your health, and your expectations.
A good fit if
- You want to soften expression lines while still looking like yourself.
- You are bothered by frown lines, forehead lines, or crow's feet at rest or with expression.
- You are in good general health and not pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You do not have an active skin infection in the treatment area.
- You have realistic expectations and are open to a conservative starting dose.
- You are looking for an experienced, medically led practice rather than a deeply discounted offer.
Treatment is generally not appropriate if
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Certain neuromuscular disorders, including myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome.
- Known allergy to a specific neuromodulator product.
- Active skin infection or inflammation in the area you want treated.
- An expectation of completely motionless results, which is not our approach.
Your provider will review your full medical history and answer your questions before any treatment.
Frequently asked questions
Will Botox make me look frozen or expressionless?
Not when treatment is planned thoughtfully. A frozen look usually comes from too much product, treating muscles that should keep moving, or copying a template instead of customizing the plan. Our approach is to start conservatively, treat only the muscles your goals require, and adjust over time.
What is the difference between Botox and other neuromodulators?
Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and similar products are all neuromodulators that temporarily relax targeted facial muscles. They differ slightly in formulation, onset, and how they spread in tissue. Your provider will discuss which option is appropriate for your goals and anatomy.
How soon will I see results and how long do they last?
Most patients begin to notice softening within 3 to 5 days, with the full effect by about two weeks. Results typically last about 3 to 4 months and vary by patient, area treated, and dose.
Does the treatment hurt?
Most patients describe the injections as a quick, mild pinch. The needles used are very fine, and treatment usually takes only a few minutes. Topical numbing or cool compresses can be used if you prefer.
What are the side effects?
Common, temporary side effects include mild redness, small bumps at injection sites, light bruising, or a brief headache. Less common effects, such as temporary brow or eyelid heaviness, are usually related to dose and placement and resolve as the product wears off. Your provider will review the full risks and benefits during your consultation.
Can I combine Botox with other treatments?
Often, yes. Neuromodulators can be paired with other cosmetic options to support your goals. A consultation is the best way to decide on a plan that makes sense for your skin and budget.
How do I get started?
We recommend an in-person cosmetic consultation in Wasilla or Anchorage. Your provider will review your goals, examine your facial anatomy, discuss options and pricing, and answer your questions before any treatment is performed.
